The Vereda Stripe Chair

A one of a kind collaboration between Routes Interiors & Artistic Upholstery

Created using our handwoven Vereda Stripe fabric, this bespoke upholstered chair brings together heritage craftsmanship from Guatemala and Britain's historic upholstery capital, Long Eaton. Designed as a statement piece for luxury interiors, it showcases the versatility of artisan-made textiles within contemporary furniture design.

The collaboration began when Routes founder Angharad Allsop met James Mitchell of Artistic Upholstery following a talk on traditional weaving techniques, artisan textiles and the story behind Routes Interiors.

As two family-run businesses united by a passion for craftsmanship, conversation soon turned to the opportunities and challenges of working with handwoven upholstery fabrics. While artisan textiles are often narrower than commercially produced fabrics, James was convinced they could be beautifully incorporated into a bespoke furniture piece.

This chair is the result.

A Meeting of Craft Traditions

Upholstered by the skilled team at Artistic Upholstery, every detail has been carefully considered to celebrate the character of the Vereda Stripe fabric. The woven design has been expertly tailored around the chair's curves, while the reverse ridged side of the textile has been incorporated to add depth, texture and visual interest.

The result is a truly unique piece that honours the hands behind its making from the Maya artisans who weave our textiles in Mexico to the craftspeople who shaped it into its final form in Derbyshire.
