Visit to Mexico: Artisan Partner Demonstrating Backstrap Loom Weaving - Routes Interiors

Made by an all women collective who work on backstrap looms in the mountains of Chiapas, Mexico. We partnered with this collective after visiting San Andres, a village famous for it’s intricate brocade designs and colour. Needless to say, we were not disappointed!

This was one of the first relationships Angharad formed when visiting Mexico. Travelling out into the windy mountains from San Cristobal, to discover and meet communities who dedicate their lives to keeping textile traditions alive. Juana was our first partner, she leads this all women cooperative, sharing her magic and wisdom to create pieces which have love woven into them. She provides the link between this remote community in San Andres and Routes. This collective of women work on backstrap looms in their homes often using brocade techniques to create designs.
